Relax and have fun: You'll play better and, if your clients are having a good time, they will be more open to doing business.
The Executive Women’s Golf Association is......a fit for your lifestyle – at any skill level.
"If you can get someone out on a golf course, and get them relaxed, you can talk about things, and it just kind of takes the edge off," said Schwark. Bridget Shuel-Walker, president of HP Products, an Indianapolis distribution company, entertains clients on the golf course an average of two times a week. "When you're on the golf course, it's just an intimate time," Shuel-Walker said. "[Your customers are] relaxed and laid-back, and they don't have 400 things on their mind. And you've got them for four or five hours with lunch." Bruggen said that while playing golf can be an important business tool for women, it can also backfire if you masquerade as a golfer. "You don't have to be a pro, but you do need to be good enough to hold your own," Bruggen said. "Playing golf can be detrimental for you from a business standpoint if you take them out and you either don't know how to play or you don't know the proper etiquette. "It can end up having the opposite effect that you were hoping for." IN THE SWING Hilary Bruggen, president of Strelmark LLC in Washington, D.C., gives workshops on how women can leverage golf for business and career gain. Here are three of her tips on how to avoid what she terms "golf course business blunders." Dress appropriately: If you're going to go out for a business round of golf decked out in pink and green, you're going to stick out like a sore thumb. Women should stick to the business color basics on the course. Know golf etiquette: Know where to stand when your playing partners are teeing off and putting. If you are always looking at either their chests or their backs, you will be in the right place. Relax and have fun: You'll play better and, if your clients are having a good time, they will be more open to doing business.
